Of all that is Cricket and of All that is Lame

Yes, Finally I’m going to write something that is not abstract or not a story. For all those people who Love cricket, Please stop reading the post right now, because I assure you, it is not going to be fun for you.

Disclaimer: What follows is a post which involves expression of hatred for the once awesome sport and the reason for it. I don’t intend to hurt anyone on any note.

I loved the sport. I really did, when there was one world cup once in four years and a couple of ODIs every year, I used to practically run from the bus stop, home listening to the Commentator, shout from inside the TV of all the houses on the way, making sure I’m not going to lose more than one over while I  executed this exciting sprint every afternoon during those times. Yet here I am, writing about how much I hate Cricket now.

The meaningless publicity, The bureaucracy, The cheerleaders.

Why for god sakes? There are enough people who enjoy the sport and watch it for the sport and not for the cheerleaders.Stop spoiling the macho sport that this is.

The irresponsible players who no longer have class, The drama.

Why would you slap someone?why the hell would you cry on TV? damn it!.

The advent of the celebrities who suddenly start loving the sport so much that they want to have something called the most stupid Indian Premiere league (IPL) , and then, Cricket became lame.

Lame to the extent that Mandira Bedi and her wardrobe of tattered little clothes became the presenter for something called the Twenty /Twenty world cup, which then became T Twenty,

what was that for?I gotta tell you “Not cool man, Not cool at all!

and all of a sudden all these gimmicks became so important, that the only reason cricket talk was in the air was for this and not for the love of the sport.

So now I’m one of those really frustrated once-upon-a-time-cricket-lovers, who cannot take it any more, and has started hating the word cricket and all the people who put status messages like “Tendlya Rocks!!!!” Get a life guys, Cricket is not the sport for us anymore. And I’m sad it is not!

Your wife is right! Cricket Sucks!! :( :( :( :(

  1. Your article is 99% perfect. The only thing I don’t understand is why you hate people who still love purists like Tendulkar & Dravid, who gave up T20 right from the beginning.

I feel that the last generation of “classic” batsmen is still around – the Tendulkars, the Dravids, the Pontings, the Husseys, the Sangakkaras – they are still very good and play quality game.

OK here is why, I don’t deny the fact that there are people who are good, infact Awesome. But, Cricket has influenced young people a lot ( To a level beyond normal, especially in our country) and they are actually spending a lot of time watching and following the game. The recent cricket trend is very bad that it is better people don’t spend time watching and following the game with as much craze as before. I only feel the media is just playing the people’s love for the game.We shouldn’t give in. Tendlya might rock, but it is not worth your time to actually publicize the fact that he rocks. Hence the hatred for the people who dont understand it is just a game and there are a few people who are good at it.Pay the due respect not your life.

  2. I read the article with a sportive heart until the last line… ;)
When people cant accept the change, they feel left alone and start cryin out loud. Our writer seems to be one among them.
There has been constant change in every aspect of life and not only cricket. I accept mandira and cheerleaders are not required but they are only used to promote the game and not the way game is played. Before IPL how many families in india enjoyed watching this sport with their family.
People of the modern day are so demanding and unless the sport comes up with new initiative, its difficult to survive.
We have other sports in india without mandira or cheerleaders, will our writer be in a position to name the captain of our football, hockey, basketball teams.
Before i conclude… I dont see people having status “Tendlya Rocks” waste more time than the person writing about it. :P

Oh yeah! It was a Tirade. Meant it to be one. I’m precisely talking about those million families, who have come to a point where they think cricket rocks when it is actually at the worst of its times. Cricket now is worth nothing when compared to the 1996 world cup or even the 2003 world cup. Nevertheless, I ve stopped watching cricket ever-since I wrote this post, so it is actually saving me a lot of time. I ve started following Football (American). Atleast it has got its strategies and is a fun game that gets over faster. ah what to do the IRONY just sucks :) .

  4. Haha dats so funny… u blame the cheerleaders to have spoiled the modern day cricket but u enjoy watching american football. The concept of cheerleaders originated in america and they participated in NFL right from 1960s. Infact Cricket is at its best now serving its hardcore fans with new formats and families with a entertainment pinch.
If you lookin for a game dats ends in less than 2hr… wait for IPL – Part 2 (T-Ten) May be another 3yrs. :P

Dude! That is why I said Irony sucks!?
I wish Indian Families were a little more classier !
yet, I wish to watch the drama where it originated that where it is copied! Cricket is supposed to be a Long game may be T10 can be named something else. It cannot be Cricket!
It is my personal opinion though :)

  5. not funny…. i guess the slapping and the crying was to bring in the gals :P … and the good old cricket lovers don watch IPL atleast dont lose sleep or get excited over it.. boy everybody hates mandira bedi esp. when she open her mouth.. i dont understand the cheer leaders too.. coz… though gorgeous as they maybe, not shown for more than 5 sec at a stretch.. and ints not only abt this, commentary nowadays sucks man SUCKS!!!! .. feel like killing arul lal, ravi shastri esp.. that one presentation ceremony in hyd… after the MASTER’s 175 on a losing cause.. i’d have given my right hand just to stab him at that moment.. but ya who am i kidding i love the game.. i’ll watch it no matter wat… AND the wife likes watching sreesanth cry… so no ROW over who gets the remote and everyone is happy :P :P

    • @Swamy. You hit the nail on the head. I ‘m not against “Loving Cricket”. Watch it like it is a Game. Not your life. We shouldn’t let it affect our lives. :) As long as ppl treat the game like you do. COOL!

  6. This is one quote which puts a smile on my face and one of the reasons i still watch cricket… This guy is a juggernaut, he has it hard at first but once those shackles are broken there is no stopping him till he himself thinks he’s had enough fun….

This one is a complete no-brainer. In case you haven’t figured out why Viru may be a problem in a dark alley, allow me to elucidate: He’d hit you. With his bat. Again and again and again and again and again and again and again. He just wouldn’t stop hitting you. If you died it would make no difference – he’d just keep hitting you and hitting you and hitting you and hitting you, until even your corpse begged for mercy.

  7. In all this IPL bashing, one shouldn’t forget that he shorter version of the game will help the game reach a LARGER audience and will help create audiences to watch LOI and Tests. Some might argue LOIs will die, but I think otherwise and am optimistic. :) . IPL sure sucks for the quality of cricket its has but it will help provide budding players a place to play the game and earn some money. This will improve the domestic teams/leagues and produce better, fitter cricketers. This is what I felt 2 years back when the ICL and IPL started. I still stand by it!

  8. Good morning,
